Product Description
20KN in a 120mm Sheave: Compact Dual Use Stringing Block
Most 20KN blocks are 250mm or larger, which is no help when the crossarm is congested, the pole is shared with telecom plant, or the pull has to be made from a bucket with no room to swing a big frame. The SHCN-120x58 puts 20KN on a 120mm sheave and weighs 2.5kg in nylon, 3.5kg in aluminium. The same body works two ways: hung from the hook fitting for suspension work, or seated on the crossarm as a skyward sitting block.

The 58mm wide groove is what makes the 120mm body a 20KN unit: the conductor sits across a wide, low-curvature contact area instead of a narrow pinched groove, so the load spreads without crushing the outer strands.
Hanging or Sitting: Choosing the Mounting
-
Hanging (hook fitting): hangs below the crossarm or from a pole bracket. Faster to move, and the block self-aligns to the conductor line. Use it on straight runs and where the block moves from structure to structure.
-
Sitting (crossarm seat): the frame sits on the crossarm with the conductor running over the top. Use it where the conductor has to clear the crossarm, or where a hanging block would foul an insulator string or a telecom drop.
-
Same part, two duties: one stock item covers both, which simplifies depot inventories and spare holdings for crews that work both configurations.
Sizing Notes
A 120mm sheave is a compromise on bend radius, so keep it to conductor of roughly 16mm diameter and below, which covers LGJ 25 to LGJ 95. Above that, move to the 160x40 for 10KN or a 250mm frame for 20KN. Where the load is the limit rather than the space, the 120x58 is the choice: it carries 20KN at 2.5kg, which is about a fifth of the weight of a 250mm block at the same rating.
Checks Before Every Pull
Confirm the sheave turns freely, the groove is free of burr and the side flanges are not worn sharp, the hook or seat shows no deformation, and the frame pin is fitted. When the block is used sitting on the crossarm, check that the seat sits flat on the arm and cannot rock under load, and that the conductor cannot ride up the side flange as the pull comes on.
Packing, Delivery and Spares
Blocks are packed in wooden cases with sheaves protected from impact. Monthly capacity is around 1000 pieces, delivery 7 to 15 days, minimum order 1 set. Sheaves, bearings and pins are stocked as service parts, and OEM marking and packing marks can follow the buyer drawing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can one block be converted from hanging to sitting on site? The frame is built for one configuration; order the version required, or order both for a mixed fleet.
Is 20KN on a 120mm sheave realistic? The rating is on the frame and bearing; the practical limit is conductor bend radius, which is why the 120x58 is intended for smaller conductor at higher tension.
Which version for coastal work? Either; the aluminium version holds its groove longer, the nylon version does not corrode and does not mark conductor.
