Product Description

B Series Bell Mouth Cable Entrance Roller with Lockable Frame

A duct lip is a hard edge at the exact point where the cable changes direction and carries the full pulling tension. An unbevelled duct mouth will cut a jacket on a long pull even with perfect rollers along the trench. This B series roller sits in the duct entrance, holds the cable off the lip, and locks at whatever angle the pull comes in at. Seven sizes cover tube diameters from 80mm to 200mm, in weights of 3.3kg to 12kg, with a single nylon sheave and a zinc coated lockable frame.

Model Data by Duct Size

21242 SH90B 90 3.5
21243 SH100B 100 3.8
21244 SH130B 130 6.0
21245 SH150B 150 7.2

21246 SH200B 200 12.0
Size is matched to the duct bore, not to the cable: the roller body has to sit in the tube without rocking, so measure the duct inside diameter at the entry before ordering. A roller one size down will tip under load and a roller one size up will not seat.

Why the Mouth Needs a Roller, Not a Chamfer
  • The entry carries full tension: every metre of cable behind the duct is being pulled through this one point, so contact pressure at the lip is at its highest here.
  • A chamfer still slides: a smoothed lip removes the sharp edge but keeps sliding friction; a roller removes both the edge and most of the friction.
  • Direction changes are taken here: on a manhole wall or a rising duct the cable enters at an angle, which is exactly the case a fixed mouth guide cannot handle and a lockable roller can.
  • Nylon contact face: the single sheave is nylon, so the jacket is not marked by metal and there is no corrosion in the groove on wet entries.

Setting and Locking the Angle
Place the roller in the mouth and set the frame so the groove is square to the incoming cable, not square to the duct face. Two to three degrees of misalignment is enough to walk a cable onto a flange over a 200 metre pull, so sight along the cable rather than trusting the duct to be plumb. Lock the frame once the angle is set, confirm the body is seated on the bore and not resting on the lip, and check that the lock bolt cannot be reached by the cable as it passes. High galvanized frames are available for wet or coastal duct banks and last considerably longer than painted frames.

One Sheave, One Plane
A single sheave guides in one plane. If the cable has to change direction both vertically and horizontally at the same entry, put a corner bank behind the bell mouth roller rather than expecting one roller to do both, or the cable will ride the flange at the second change. This is the most common cause of "the roller was fitted but the jacket still got marked".

Inspection and Service
Check that the sheave spins freely before each pull, that the groove shows no burr or flat spot, that the frame lock engages positively, and that the frame is not bent so it still seats in the bore. Sheaves and bearings are replaceable; a roller that no longer locks should be taken out of service.

Packing and Supply
Packed in wooden cases with the sheave protected. Monthly capacity around 1000 pieces, delivery 7 to 15 days, minimum order 1 set, OEM marking and packing marks to the buyer drawing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can one roller cover several duct sizes? No, the body is sized to the bore; depots working mixed ducts usually hold three or four sizes.
Is an aluminium sheave version available? Yes, aluminium rollers are supplied for abrasive duty where groove life matters more than jacket protection.
Which model for a 110mm duct? The SH100B is the closest standard size; confirm the bore against the SH130B before ordering.
