Product Description
1040 Series Five Sheave Stringing Block for 200KN Heavy Haul Pulls
Above roughly 150KN of pulling tension the limiting factor stops being the conductor and becomes the rigging chain: tensioner setting, block rating, hanger hardware and the way a 330kg block is lifted onto the crossarm. The SHWQN1040 is the five sheave unit in the 1040 Series, rated 200KN on a 1040mm sheave with a rubber lined MC nylon conductor groove and an MC nylon centre wheel. It is intended for large bundle pulls where the tensioner can deliver more than a three sheave block can share out evenly.
Model Range and Capacity Class
| Item No. | Model | Sheaves | Rated Load (kN) | Weight (kg) | Wheel Build |
| 10165 | SHDN1040 | 1 | 50 | 62 | MC nylon wheel |
| 10166 | SHSQN1040 | 3 | 100 | 200 | MC nylon centre, rubber lined MC nylon conductor wheels |
| 10167 | SHWQN1040 | 5 | 200 | 330 | MC nylon centre, rubber lined MC nylon conductor wheels |
Rated load is per block. The 1040mm diameter keeps the conductor bend radius high on large section conductors, which matters more than load rating once the conductor passes about 45mm.
Matching the Block to the Tensioner and the Bundle
-
Start from the tensioner: take the machine's rated pull, divide by the number of conductors in the bundle, then add margin for friction over the number of blocks in the section. If the result approaches 40KN per conductor, the five sheave 200KN unit is the right frame rather than three separate blocks.
-
Keep the block count down: fewer blocks means fewer hanger points, fewer snag risks and less total friction, which is why a single 200KN block is often used in place of two 100KN units on long pulls.
-
Rubber lined conductor grooves: the liner damps impact at the lead block where the conductor enters under full tension, and it protects coated or greasy conductors better than a plain nylon groove.
-
Load path through the frame: the hanger eye, axle seats and gussets are sized for the full 200KN with the load applied at the rated angle; the unit should never be side loaded beyond the angle stated on the drawing.
Handling a 330kg Unit
The SHWQN1040 is a crane or gin wheel item, not a two man lift. Lifting points are marked on the frame, the keeper and axle pins are captive so they cannot be dropped from height, and the wheels can be removed on the ground before the frame is lifted if the site has limited crane capacity. For depot storage, crib the frame so the wheels are off the floor and the groove is not loaded by the block's own weight.
Verification and Paperwork
Frames are checked for hanger eye alignment and weld quality, axles are dimensionally inspected, and wheels are measured for groove radius, groove width and radial runout before assembly. Each finished block is proof loaded to 1.5 times rated load and the wheels are spun under load to confirm bearing seating, then the unit is serial numbered and supplied with an inspection sheet. Load test certificates, material certificates and third party inspection records can be issued against the order drawing for project handover.
Packing, Lead Time and Service Parts
Blocks ship in reinforced plywood cases with the groove protected and lifting marks on the outside; the 330kg unit is braced to the case base. Stock models move in 3 to 7 days, monthly output is about 300 pieces, and wheels, liners, bearings, axles and keeper pins are held as service parts so a worn liner or a scored wheel is a swap rather than a replacement block.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a steel wheel version available on the same frame? Yes, cast steel wheels can be fitted for steel rope duty on request.
Can the block be supplied with a custom hanger? Hanger eye bore, plate thickness and pin diameter can be made to the buyer drawing.
What documentation comes with the 200KN unit? Nameplate with model, rated load and serial number, plus an inspection sheet and, on request, the 1.5 times load test certificate.
