Product Description
Open Side Aerial Cable Stringing Roller with Hook Hanger
The open side is the whole point of this roller. One side plate swings clear, so a crew can place the roller under an existing conductor, ADSS span or communication cable without cutting it or threading an end through the groove. That makes it the practical choice for maintenance work, for adding a roller mid span on a de-tensioned section, and for pulling small ACSR on straight poles where the crossarm is already fitted out. Sheaves run 80mm to 120mm in nylon or aluminium, rated 5KN to 20KN, with a galvanized steel frame and a hook hanger that clears a standard crossarm bolt.
Model Data
| Item No. | Model | Rated Load (kN) | Sheave (mm) | Weight (kg) | Sheave |
| 10233 | SHCN-0.5 | 5 | 80 x 50 | 1.1 | Nylon |
| 10231 | SHC-0.5 | 5 | 80 x 50 | 1.5 | Aluminium |
| 10234 | SHCN-2 | 20 | 120 x 60 | 2.3 | Nylon |
| 10232 | SHC-2 | 20 | 120 x 60 | 3.0 | Aluminium |
| 10222 | SHLN-1 | 10 | per drawing | 3.0 | Nylon |
| 10221 | SHC-1 | 10 | per drawing | 4.0 | Aluminium |
The SHC-0.5 and SHCN-0.5 take ACSR up to about 185mm2, the SHC-2 and SHCN-2 up to about 240mm2, and the SHC-1 and SHLN-1 carry conductor up to 400mm2. Weight includes hook and frame.
What the Open Side Changes on Site
-
Mid span placement: the roller goes under the cable wherever it is needed, so a low sag point or a damaged roller position can be supported without opening the span.
-
Maintenance without re-stringing: replacing a seized roller on an existing line is a ten minute job rather than a re-pull.
-
One hand on the ladder: the side plate swings out, the cable drops into the groove, the plate closes and the pin goes in, all with the block already hanging on the hook.
-
Frame stays rigid: only the side plate opens, so the load path from hook to axle is unchanged and the rated load applies with the plate closed and pinned.
Sizing Rules
Choose by cable diameter first: the groove should be a few millimetres wider than the cable, and the sheave diameter should be at least fifteen times the cable diameter so the bend radius stays inside the cable's allowance. Then check the load. For ADSS and OPGW the nylon sheave is the safer default because it removes metal to fibre contact; for repeated pulls of steel rope or heavy ACSR the aluminium sheave holds its groove longer. Never pull with the side plate open or unpinned, and never use the roller as an anchor or a snatch block.
Inspection Points
Before each job check that the hook throat is not worn thin, the side plate pin and its retaining clip are present, the sheave turns freely with no grit in the bearing, and the groove shows no burr or flat spot. After a drop, retire the unit or replace the sheave: a flat spot on the rim will mark cable on every pass.
Supply, Packing and Service
Rollers are packed in plywood cases, 20 to 40 pieces per case by size, with the sheaves protected from impact. Monthly capacity is around 1000 pieces, delivery 7 to 15 days, minimum order 1 piece. Sheaves, bearings, side plates and pins are stocked as service parts, and OEM marking, frame colour and packing marks can follow the buyer's drawing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the roller be supplied with a plate hanger instead of a hook? Yes, the frame is also made with a bolt-on plate hanger.
Is a triple roller version available for crossarm mounting? Yes, the crossarm mounted three roller block is available for small conductor at angle poles.
Which model suits ADSS on a 35kV line? SHCN-2 with the 120mm nylon sheave is the usual choice for spans needing the larger bend radius.
